High Standard Fakes

I am planning to write an article concerning faking of the more expensive High Standard pistols (i.e., slant grip Victor, and 10-X pistols).  If you have any information or tips on things to look for when inspecting potential purchases, please comment.  I will collect these and see if I can write the article so that it may be of help to purchasers.
Thanks,
Wayne

  1. A "stereo microscope" with 6x to 120x magnification is very helpful to identify restored or modified stampings on pistols. I was able to see the dremmel tool marks in the bottom of the rollmarks on a restored HS at 15x.

An intense white light flashlight is helpful to see lettering 'welded/filled/buffed' when held at an angle to the reworked stamping. I was shown this years ago on a slant-grip Victor that checked out to have originally been a 102 Citation.

  2. There is also a "POST FACTORY" Modle B with "US NAVY" and military acceptance cartouche oferewd on Auction Arms. BEWARE>
